The biggest challenge I faced in my life is being an oddball. I used to come home crying secretly inside my room because kids called me weird for reasons I didn’t know. When I reached 22 and after nearly a year of getting help, I realized that the only way to survive is to accept.

When I woke up this morning, I felt terrible again. There was this inexplicable feeling of wanting to shave my head. I reevaluated myself, maybe I was just having another existential fit. I checked my reasons. I was frustrated about something. I wanted to scream equality among genders. I wanted to if not feel special, feel unique. I wanted to be true to myself. I wanted to do what I have long been wanting to do. And frankly, I’m starting to look like Patti Smith.

Then one of mentors, a Creative Writing professor shed a light to this dilemma, this is what she said:

“It can be about challenging beauty concepts, gender issues, dualities and polarities, social and cultural power standards. It can be about challenging your own limits and self-concepts. It can be about making spiritual connections easier (monks and popes and avatars are usually kalbo). It can be about finding out how cancer victims socially feel while they’re on chemo. Or, making it fun for yourself to try on different wigs. Any reason is good enough a reason. :-)”

So what do you think? Nah. What you think doesn’t matter, what I think matters.
